How to: Layer

Layering is probably the biggest issue I hear about with dressing for cooler weather. Women say they just don’t know what looks best together or how to layer adequately. Once you build up the right basics in your wardrobe, layering turns into an easy process. By adding an extra top or tank underneath, you create a more uniformed and put together look. Check out my tips and tricks to making layering easy!

Stripe long sleeve tees are a major must…in multiple colors!! This cardi would not look as poppin without the stripes underneath. Even though this is long sleeve, it looks great with the sleeves pushed up so the stripe tee can show underneath. This is the easiest way to layer! When in doubt, add a stripe tee underneath.

Having a basic white tee on hand is also a perfect piece for layering. I love the solid white under this black/.grey poncho. It creates a great contrast!

A classic layering look! Take a collared button down (plaid, print, or solid) and wear it under a sweater! Make sure it’s crisp and not bulky underneath. Let the cuffs and bottom of the shirt stick out. I love the plaid in this picture!

When layering an open cardi, make sure the top underneath is shorter. It will give you a better shape and overall a cleaner look. Cropped cardis can be flattering for shorter frames, but make sure the top is tucked in to create a waistline. See the photo below.

We have a fabulous tee that is perfect for layering. See it in multiple colors here!

I think this look might be my fave!! This over sized poncho will keep you super warm!! It looks great with a white tee underneath. Make it yours!

How To: Mix Prints

This season is all about mixing it up! One print is not enough, you need two or three to get a nice, cohesive look. The most popular prints to mix are leopard, plaid, and stripes. We love these new styling guidelines because it allows for much more creativity and fun!

I love leopard print in the fall! Switch out a basic tee for a striped tee and pair it with a leopard print scarf. This look is fearless and unique! Shop our leopard scarf here.

This is our favorite look showing off how to layer stripes and plaid! Believe it or not, this is our blanket scarf folded and finished off with a belt over a plain stripe tee. I just love how the stripes look popping out from under the scarf. So chic!

You would never think it, but plaid looks great layered under a stripe sweater as well! The rule book has been thrown out the window and now it’s all about playing with prints. Shop our plaid button downs here.

Yes, floral can be worn in the fall!! I love how this look has stripes on top and floral on the bottom. Stripes look fab with a BIG floral print. It works best if the print has negative space (in this case, the navy background). Try not to pair stripes with a small floral print.

A classic look! Transition your summer stripe dress into this season by adding a plaid blanket scarf and a jacket. Shop this scarf here.

Fall Essentials List

Autumn is in full swing and if you’re anything like me, you are scrambling around trying to build the best fall wardrobe ever! With a new season comes a ton of fun new fashion trends. But don’t worry, I’ve whittled down the list to only the essentials! Check out my must have items for the season.

Sweater wraps are the comfiest trend of fall 2015! They are easy to wear and will definitely keep you warm. They look great over leggings, skinny jeans, jeggings, and even dresses. I love this option with its big bold print, but I love the neutral colors so that it can be worn with anything. Shop this item here.

Fringe booties!! These cuties are definitely the most wanted footwear right now. They look fabulous with dresses, skirts, and rolled up denim. Fringe is in!! You can’t go wrong with a little fringe detailing this season. I wrote a blog post here about how to wear ankle booties. Shop our fringe booties here.

A cable knit sweater is fall’s most wanted basic! Layer it with a sweater wrap or add a necklace, you can’t go wrong with this must have. It also looks fab with skinny jeans and fringe booties! The possibilities are endless. Shop this item here.

How to wear a blanket scarf

You need a blanket scarf in your life! These over sized scarves are gorgeous and are big enough to keep you warm all season long. I wrote a blog post here explaining my favorite ways to wear them. Seriously, they spice up a basic tee into a fast fun outfit! Shop our blanket scarves here.

Have you ever heard of duck boots? They’re a fall/winter essential for sure!! These amazing boots will keep you warm and looking good all season long!! Wear them easily through the snow and ice. You won’t ever have to stop looking stylish. They are fur lined and literally like heaven on your feet! I wrote a blog post here about how to wear them. Basically, they look fab with denim and leggings. Add socks to make it even more fashion forward! Shop our duck boots here.

Fleece lined leggings!! The ultimate cozy must have!! I am not exaggerating when I say these are the softest things in the world!! Wear them on their own or layer them under your pants for extra warmth. You need these in your life! Shop fleece lined leggings here.

A printed long sleeve dress! Before it gets too chilly, this dress will look amazing with knee high boots! But, as the weather changes, add leggings and boots to keep warm and continue to look fabulous!! The long sleeves make it season appropriate. Also, mock turtlenecks are HUGE this season and this dress has a great fit. Shop this item here.

Ponchos are back and better than ever!! These easy breezy cuties are a no brainer!! It’s an instant outfit. I love pairing them with tees underneath, especially striped tees. Shop our ponchos here.

How to: Make Pumpkin Vases

I hosted a bridal shower for my friend last weekend and found this cute idea for easy, affordable fall decor! With Halloween two days away and Thanksgiving around the corner, these pumpkin vases are perfect for every occasion!

Here is what you’ll need:

1 pumpkin (not the mini size, the small size)

1 carving tool

1 scoop

1 bouquet of flowers (I got mine from Trader Joes for only $3.99!)

1 knife

1 sharpie

Step 1

Draw a circle around the stem of the pumpkin with the sharpie just big enough to fit the flowers. You don’t want it to be too big.

Step 2

Using the carving tool, cut the pumpkin along your marked line.

Step 3

Take the top off and throw it away, you don’t need it.

Step 4

Clean out the guts of the pumpkin using the scoop. Get it as clean as possible!

Step 5

Run water in the pumpkin to clean out any excess gunk

Step 6

Trim flowers to the right height so only the flowers (not the stems) are showing.

Step 7

Put the flowers in the pumpkin, add water, and you’re done!

I did mine last week and they are still looking good! Dress up your mantle, front porch, or make them for the centerpieces. These cuties look so nice! Plus, people will go crazy over them!

Here is how one of my vases turned out (I made 3 total):
